National Boys & Girls Club Week sponsored by Jones Heating & Air
What an awesome first week it was at the new Boys and Girls Clubs of Saline County, Riverside Club! The first week in the new Club we celebrated National Boys & Girls Club Week sponsored by Jones Heating & Air. Each day of National Boys & Girls Club week is themed and full of fun for Club members and staff; it is also an important time for all Clubs to tell their Boys & Girls Club story. This is the perfect time for us to share with Saline County how our Clubs are opening the doors to great futures.
Monday was “Open the Door to Academic Success.” The University of Arkansas Little Rock donated piggy banks to our art room. Mrs. Kay, our art teacher, explained to the kids how important education is and saving for their education is crucial. We hope our kids are able to save their funds from their banks and go to the college of their dreams. In addition, we made sure to spotlight alumni success story on our Board President, Jim Handley. Our Club members Hunter Hritz and Easton Snellings interviewed Mr. Handley where they learned what it was like for him to be a Club member, see how the Club influenced his life and still is today and how his academics helped him succeed in life.
Tuesday was “Open the Door to Teens.” Our younger kids made dream boards about what they want to do when they become teens. They also celebrated still being little kids with huge bounce houses and cotton candy.
Wednesday was “Open the Door to Good Character and Citizenship.” We had instructors from All Star ATA Martial Arts in Bryant come teach a class about bullying with Mrs. Anna in the learning center. Polar Freeze surprised us with snow cones for all the kids and staff.
Thursday was “Open the Door to Healthy Lifestyles.” All Star ATA Martial Arts in Bryant came back to teach a martial arts camp and ways to have fun while being healthy. Snack was a big hit because Mrs. Gina and her staff from Gina’s Catering came to prepare snack in her kitchen! It’s obvious the love Mrs. Gina has for our Club and our kids. She taught them how important it is to eat healthy and showed them how easy it is with what they have in their cabinets at home.
Friday was “Open the Door, Take the Tour.” We invited the community to come tour our Club and see what amazing things are happening in our doors. Benton Police Department came to teach the kids Bike Safety and Bully prevention. Thanks to an anonymous donor, we were able to raffle of bikes and helmets to two lucky Club members. Samuel Hollomon was one winner who yelled, “I am so excited. I am feeling so awesome” when we won his brand new bike. To see his face and excitement is just one reason we do what we do.
This week was successful and our members will have memories to last them a lifetime. We couldn’t have made it possible without our community and our amazing staff. Thank you our sponsor Jones Heating & Air. Also we would like to thank University of Arkansas in Little Rock, Board President, Jim Handley, Hog Wild Events, Polar Freeze, All Star ATA Martial Arts in Bryant, Gina’s Catering, Shotime Graphics and the Benton Police Department for your part in making this week extra special for our kids, community and the movement of Boys and Girls Clubs across America.
