Lights On Afterschool
On October 2, 2015, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Saline County will be celebrating Lights On Afterschool, the only nationwide event recognizing the critical need for quality after school programs. This event will highlight three of the significant contributions that after school programs make to Saline County: keeping kids safe and healthy, inspiring them to learn, and relieving working parents of worries about their children's activities during the afternoon hours. Lights On Afterschool calls attention to the importance to these after school programs and the resources required to keep the lights and doors open to the children of our community.
Special guests will include Mayor Mattingly, former NBA player Glen Rice, as well as local bussiness leaders. All community members are invited to attend. Please join us in celebrating our members at Lights On Afterschool. The club will also host a 3 point shoot out and Hot Shot competition. Some of our community partners will be in attendance with resources and information available to guests.
The benefits of quality afterschool programs are clear. They support working families by ensuring that children are safe and productive when the school day ends. Quality afterschool programs make our communities stronger by involving students, parents, business leaders and volunteers. Quality afterschool programs give children the opportunity to discover hidden talents as they grow academically and socially.
We look forward to having you join us for Lights On Afterschool. We hope that you will join us to celebrate keeping the lights on after school, and giving our children a brighter future.
